$91 million Russian wind plants to be built by RusHydro, Japanese partners
Company logo of RusHydroA $91-million (RUB 3 billion) project to build wind plants on Russky Island, off Vladisvostok and the Primorye region of Russia, is being planned by Russian hydro-generating company, RusHydro, with Japan’s Mitsui and J-Power.
The Japanese partners, who were encouraged by studies on Russky Island’s wind potential, will finance up to 50% of the total investment.
A capacity of up to 36 megawatts (MW) is planned for the initial stages of the project in Russky Island, after which a bigger wind farm will be built in Primorye. Up to 200 MW can be harnessed from the Primorye project, RusHydro CEO Vasily Zubakin told Interfax.
The project will be developed in time for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vladivostok in 2012.
RusHydro is the largest hydroelectricity company in Russia and the second largest in the world, in terms of installed capacity. As of January this year, its installed capacity is already at 25,366.6 MW.
