Images sourced from Boralex and Gaz MétroThe Government of Quebec has given its approval for the two Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms with a total installed capacity of 272-megawatts (MW), which are owned by the consortium formed by Boralex Inc. and Gaz Métro Limited Partnership.
According to Patrick Lemaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boralex, and Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz Métro, the environmental approvals were “the first to be awarded to a project under the latest Hydro-Québec call for tenders,” proving that the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms have environmental merit and social acceptability.
With the environmental approvals, Boralex and Gaz Métro can now apply for construction permits and seek funding from financial institutions.
The Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms are scheduled to be fully operational by December 2013. The wind farms are being developed on land owned by the Seminary of Québec, which not only has excellent wind conditions, but is also far from urban and residential areas, making it perfectly suited for wind energy projects.
