Renewable power inverter company Power-One gets $ 60 million investment

Power management solutions company, Power-One, announced on May 8 a $60-million investment from Silver Lake Sumeru.

Power-One manufactures, among other power solutions, its Aurora Inverters for the wind and solar energy markets. In the solar energy market, Aurora Inverters utilize high-efficiency power-conversion technologies, and high-speed independent Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) channels to increase the amount of usable power from residential and commercial solar energy plants. The solar energy inverter is rated at exceeding 96% power efficiency. The Aurora Wind Inverters are designed for residential wind installations (3,600 to 7,200 watts), with an efficiency rating of 99%.

The net proceeds of the transaction are approximately $56 million after deducting estimated expenses. A portion of the proceeds went to the repurchasing of $21.75 million in 8% notes from bondholders. The remaining proceeds will go to operations and new corporate initiatives.

Power-One is also involved in power conversion and power management solutions for routers, data storage and servers, wireless communications, optical networking, medical diagnostics, military, railway controls, semiconductor test equipment, and custom applications.

Power-One is headquartered in Camarillo, California. The company has sales offices, manufacturing, and R&D operations in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The company is listed on the Nasdaq as PWER. The stock was up May 8 by 3.28%, closing at $1.26.

Silver Lake Sumeru makes private investments in middle-market technologies. It is within the group of private investment firm Silver Lake. Silver Lake’s investment portfolio includes Gartner, Avaya, Seagate Technology, MCI, Thomson, Ameritrade, and Itelsat.
