Siemens secures $ 8.2 million contract from Pennsylvania to make state buildings energy efficient
Siemens Building Technologies is a leading provider ofenergy and environmental solutions
Siemens’ Energy and Environmental Solutions secured an $8.2 million performance contract with Pennsylvania’s Department of General Services (DGS) to reduce the energy consumption in two state buildings at the capital of Harrisburg. Under the contract, Siemens guarantees reduction in energy use over 15 years. Almost $800,000 in savings is expected within one year into the contract, with the figure increasing by 5% yearly. Savings of $15 million are estimated for the entire duration of the contract. Net energy cost savings to taxpayers are in excess of $2 million, according to the DGS.
Some of the measures that Siemens has in line for the program are: the development of a 10-kilowatt solar energy system, building automation control improvements, enhancement of heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, improvement of low-flow plumbing fixtures, replacement of more than 2,000 windows, and the continuation of the implementation of photovoltaic energy systems at government facilities.
Siemens said that the project’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions would equal to 104,276 acres of preserved forest, 639 railcars of unburned coal, 27,206 cars removed from roads, or 291,002 barrels of oil unused.
A GreenTouch Screen was also installed by Siemens in the lobby of the buildings to display real-time energy data and information, such as output from the photovoltaic systems of the buildings.
