Norwegian company Scatec Solar, a turn-key supplier of solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions, has established a subsidiary in the United States as part of its strategy to become a major provider of commercial PV plants in North America.
Scatec Solar North America will be located in Mountain View, California. The company plans to develop solar projects in multiple states in the United States, cooperating with different state governments to assist in the quick roll-out and implementation of the projects.
Scatec Solar also signed a power purchase agreement with a large winery in Sonoma, California for the purchase of the electricity generated by a 500-kilowatt PV rooftop system.
According to Ravi Khanna, President and Chief Executive Officer of Scatec Solar, it has been a strategic move for the company to establish a subsidiary in North America as “the United States is rapidly emerging as the world’s largest solar PV market.”
He added that “the new emphasis on renewable energy and oil independency in the US will be driving demand for solar energy solutions. And as the PV technology approaches grid parity in many markets, and grants schemes and tax incentives take effect, the demand will grow even stronger.”
Scatec Solar is a global turn-key supplier and operator of solar PV solutions for on-grid and off-grid applications. The company has developed more than 25 megawatts of grid-connected solar parks in Europe, and has also constructed two community solar power plants in two villages in Uttar Pradesh, India. Its headquarters is located in Oslo, Norway.
