Siemon, a manufacturer of high-performance network cabling solutions, has showcased its commitment to protect the environment through the installation of a 217-kilowatt (kW) solar power array at its corporate headquarters in Watertown, Connecticut and its North American Manufacturing Campus.

The solar power system, located at Siemon’s Dynamic Manufacturing Facility, was designed and installed by Alteris Renewables, a leading renewable energy systems integrator. A grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund helped finance Siemon’s solar project.

The solar installation will generate enough electricity to power up to 21 homes. It will also reduce Siemon’s dependence on non-renewable energy sources and cut down greenhouse gas emissions by 159 metric tons per year, which is the equivalent of taking 30 vehicles off the road. The system will continue providing the benefits of greenhouse gas reductions for the next 20 years or more.

Siemon has chosen Alteris Renewables to install the system because of the latter’s expertise in engineering design, project management, and successful commercial installation portfolio. Tim Seamans, Chief Operating Officer of Alteris, applauded Siemon’s decision to invest in solar energy and encouraged other companies to follow suit, saying “By investing in solar, businesses are able to parlay investments into healthy returns and position themselves to be more competitive.”

Aside from installing its solar power array, Siemon has implemented other green initiatives such as efficient power usage, aggressive recycling, and forest land preservation and protection. Carl Siemon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemon, hoped that other manufacturers would follow Siemon’s example and make their operations more sustainable.

The inauguration of Siemon’s solar power system was held at a public ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Watertown, Connecticut. Representatives from Siemon and Alteris Renewables, business leaders, and state and local officials attended the event.

Siemon is a leading manufacturer of high-quality, high-performance network cabling solutions, offering a comprehensive suite of copper and fiber cabling systems.

Alteris Renewables, Inc. is a leading provider and integrator of solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, and wind energy solutions for the residential, commercial, and industrial markets, with over 2,250 installations throughout the Northeast. Its headquarters is located in Wilton, Connecticut.
