Spain’s Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica, a leading manufacturer of wind turbines, has signed an agreement with China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Co. Ltd.(CGNPG), to develop 253-megawatts (MW) of wind power projects in Shandong Province, located in northeastern China.
The agreement comprises six wind power projects in Shandong Province, to be developed throughout a two-year period, from 2009 to 2011. The wind farms will be equipped with Gamesa G5x 850kW wind turbines, which were manufactured in the company’s production facilities in Tianjin.
The first joint project of the two companies is the 49.3-MW Taipingshan wind farm, which will utilize 58 wind turbine generators of Gamesa G5x. This is the first wind farm to be developed by Gamesa Energìa in China. Construction of the wind farm is expected to begin in June, with the supply, delivery, and installation of the wind turbines scheduled to commence during the fourth quarter of 2009.
The agreement with Guangdong Nuclear is part of Gamesa’s commitment to jointly develop the wind energy market in China with leading local utilities.
