Photo Courtesy of the Scottish Government. The Zero Waste Delivery program of the Scottish Government seeks to create a better waste delivery model throughout the state. Its aim is to encourage recycling and prevent, reduce, and reuse waste.
For the period 2008-2011, the Scottish Government allocated GBP154 million ($233 million) to a new Zero Waste Fund that will support the delivery program. Of this, GBP54.4 million ($82.3 million) is allotted for 2009 to 2010.
The Scottish government is observing two review stages for the Zero Waste Delivery program. The first stage of the review will consider the shape of the new delivery model and make recommendations by July 2009.
Since the Zero Waste Delivery program is also a part of the new National Waste Management Plan, which will be launched in the spring of 2010, the second stage of the review will consider what zero waste functions the new delivery model will have.
“Both stages will gather evidence from existing business plans, feedback from customers and Scottish Government officials. The evidence gathering process will identify strengths and weaknesses of the existing delivery model and make appropriate recommendations,” the government said.
The government plans to present general guiding plans for the program by October 2009. The outcome of the review will be a more effective and simplified delivery model with clear objectives.
